On the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, Oaxaca, as in many other societies worldwide, it is women who hold the religious rituals of Holy Week.
In the Catholic religion, women were (and continue to be) excluded from decision-making positions within the church.
However, they are the ones who participate the most, fulfilling gender roles and mandates when carrying out activities associated with the feminine and what it means to be a woman in a society like this, activities that in one way or another guarantee the continuity of Catholic rituals.
